Position Description:

This position performs technical work in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater systems. This position also performs Operation of the Water Distribution System. Position may require some overtime, weekend, and holiday work as well as On-Call responsibility.

Limited supervisory responsibilities over General Maintenance Workers and Maintenance Trades Helpers under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and the Utility Manager.

  

Key Accountabilities:


Performs repairs, preventive and corrective maintenance on water distribution system equipment including; pumps, fire hydrants, valves, water tanks, chemical feed equipment, motors, electrical controls, and related components.
Prepares orders for maintenance materials, supplies, spare parts and equipment.
Performs water system operator duties including but not limited to collecting samples, performing water quality field tests, operating pumps, maintaining water levels and pressure, adding chemicals to the water, and water main repairs
Maintains computerized and manual records and prepares reports pertaining to the operation of the system, reviews daily reports and plant operations, and makes changes as required to meet operating requirements.
Follows Company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies.  Wear and work in proper personal protective equipment.
Meets with customers and maintains acceptable customer service, Performs other related functions assigned or as they become apparent or as management assigns

Oversees day-to-day activities of assigned staff. Participates in review and evaluation of staff performance related to maintenance. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor and/or Utility Manager will follow company discipline policy when needed.

 
Skills/Knowledge:

• Effectively and safely operates hand tools, pneumatic tools, air compressors and other small equipment related to the maintenance trades and system operations.
• Hands-on experience in light duty electrical power systems (240 V/ single and three-phase) and instrumentation calibration and use.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to chemical addition and water system operation

 • Knowledge of mechanical operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of electrical systems related to equipment in assigned work area.
• Knowledge of proper operation of hydraulic, pneumatic and telemetry equipment.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
• Knowledge of water distribution system processes including ability to operate basic systems independently.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

•Ability to plan and oversee the work of employees.

•General knowledge of MS Office products, including Word and Excel and be able to learn the use of new software with training assistance.

  

Education / Experience

• Must possess a high school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience can be considered in lieu of degree.

•Must possess a valid, active state driver’s license preferably with CDL suitable for small dump truck use.

• Five (5) years experience in maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in water or wastewater systems

• Prefer state water treatment and/or water distribution operator license and/or wastewater collections system certification

 

Work Environment:

• Employee may be required to work indoor or outdoor work during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.  Employee may be required to work where regularly they may be exposed to fumes, dust and odors.
• Some high noise levels from operations of equipment.
• Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks while wearing an approved respirator as required, as some required work may have potential for exposure to harmful contaminants, environments, noise, etc.
• May have to work after normal work hours for on-call assisgnments.

•Must possess a valid, active state driver’s license preferably with CDL suitable for small dump truck use.
• Additional trade specific courses preferred.
