Position Description:
DNV GL - Energy North America is seeking a creative and collaborative senior team member with a vision for the future of the energy industry for our Energy Insights team. The successful candidate will serve as Principal Energy Consultant, responsible for leading project work and business development efforts, development of new service offerings and thought leadership and interfacing with key clients. This position will require some travel to client offices and sites, other office locations, and conferences, approximately 25% of the time.
This position is based out of our Medford, MA, Portland, ME; Oakland CA, or Middletown, CT offices. Remote locations may also be considered.
Tasks May Include
- Leadership in business development
- Play a lead role in business development efforts through fostering positive relationship with existing and new clients and identifying objectives, challenges, and opportunities for our team
- Ensure timely bid decisions, development of high-quality proposals
- Design multiclient research studies, including staffing and budget development
- Thought leadership
- Identify and lead the development of thought leadership, new client initiatives and the development of new service offerings
- Develop, maintain and apply knowledge about current and emerging market issues including energy efficiency and demand response, electrification, non-wires alternatives, energy storage, electric vehicles, microgrids, distributed energy, grid resiliency, decarbonization, etc.
- Project sponsorship
- Provide oversight of project teams, ensuring effectively delivery throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure management of projects, internal staff, and subcontractor staff in accordance with DNV GL policies
- Effectively mediate and resolve escalated issues between client and project team, or within the project team
- Ensure quality of the work according to relevant standards, including adherence to processes for verification of quality of the work
- Project leadership
- Oversee research projects, including client interaction, development of work plans and leadership of project teams
- Preparing reports and presentations for clients covering research methodology, findings and insightful recommendations

Special Instructions:
Requirements

Minimum ten (10) years of work experience in energy efficiency or demand-side management or other relevant energy programs

Minimum five (5) years of work experience in an energy consulting environment

Exceptional project management skills

Well-structured approach and results oriented (critical); ability to work in a fast paced environment

Ability to manage teams (internal, delivery) and projects end to end, with minimal supervision

Attention to detail and strong quantitative skills

Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact independently up and down the organization and with clients, members, utilities and partners.

Proven track record and accomplishments in leading business development efforts

Ability to manage time and workload effectively to complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in energy efficiency and demand side measures
- Existing contacts at utilities and other energy providers (such as community-choice aggregators)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with emphasis in a relevant discipline (HR/Personnel Management, Business, Statistics, Economics, Energy Policy, Engineering) is an asset but not required
