Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, New York Power Authority

Nancy Harvey is New York Power Authority’s Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. In 2020, Nancy was tapped to lead implementation of an aggressive new action plan to ignite and rejuvenate diversity, equity and inclusion at NYPA, aimed at moving the largest state public power organization in the nation forward toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce. She is responsible for designing and implementing the overall diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives that align with NYPA’s overall business strategy and will provide leadership and strategic direction in creating and supporting an environment at NYPA that is inclusive, respectful and free from discrimination, intolerance, harassment and retaliation.

Prior to her promotion, Nancy established the Office of Civil Rights and Inclusion in 2017 to expand NYPA’s DEI efforts starting with a focus on employee engagement and education. Since then, Nancy has successfully introduced NYPA’s 6 sanctioned Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), secured executive sponsorship for the ERGs, provided executive leadership training around DEI and increased employee engagement scores across the organization. More recently, Nancy successfully led the development and implementation of NYPA’s Ten Point, 5-Year DEI Plan, oversaw an audit of NYPA’s DEI Program and developed and launched Pathways in collaboration with Talent Development, a targeted developmental program for historically underrepresented employees, among other things.

A committed champion of women, minorities, underrepresented groups and cultural change, Nancy works to ensure a culture that helps all employees to be and do their best. Prior to joining NYPA, Nancy was Senior Counsel & Ethics Officer for the Battery Park City Authority. She also served as Senior Counsel and Deputy EEO Officer for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Nancy has successfully negotiated concession agreements, managed multi- million dollar grant portfolios, led complex internal investigations of discrimination and sexual harassment, and collaborated with Corporation Counsel on Title VII lawsuits.

Nancy is a certified diversity practitioner who holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.A.) in Public Accounting from the City University of New York, Baruch College. She received her Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and is licensed to practice law in New York.

A trusted advisor to EMC, senior leaders, trustees and colleagues, Nancy was named the 2021 Diversity Equity & Inclusion Power Player of the Year by the Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA).
